Current Research Opportunities

Treatment of Bipolar Disorder, Manic or Mixed Episodes:

Inpatient trial, open label (no placebo), of Cariprazine, 3-12 mg/day, followed by outpatient follow-up care.  Cariprazine is a new medication whose mechanism of action involves D3, D2 and Serotonin receptors.  Study provides free inpatient and outpatient care, physical exams, eye exams, and laboratory tests.  Inpatient care is at Montevista Hospital, an 80 bed, free-standing private psychiatric hospital. (Protocol 36)


Treatment of Schizophrenia:  Inpatient trial of 2 doses of Cariprazine, a new medication whose mechanism of action involves D3, D2 and Serotonin receptors, compared to placebo.

Inpatient care is at Montevista Hospital, an 80 bed, free-standing private psychiatric hospital.  (Protocol 05) Responders may continue the medication, open label, as an outpatient (Protocol 11).  Study provides free inpatient care, physical exams, eye exams, laboratory tests and outpatient care after discharge.
